SSC offers youth soccer for players from U4 to U15, birth years 2016 to 2005. SSC also offers CJSA league play beginning as an option at the U7 and U8 age
Junior Sharks with SSC is perfect if your child is new to soccer, or if you are looking for the next step in your child's developmental soccer path.
Stage 1: "Me & My Ball"
U4 (Born in 2016), U5 (Born in 2015) and U6 (Born in 2014)
Training sessions are 1x week for 45 minutes, as recommended by US Soccer for this age group. At the first stage in the Junior Sharks program, the focus is on the individual player to use his/her
imagination to become creators and inventors.
Consequently, fun activities will be the primary focus as we introduce the ABCs (agility, balance, coordination and speed) Moreover, no attention will be placed on tactics, team shape, or positions
at this age. Small-sided games will never exceed the 3v3 format. SSC wants all players to love the game, and we begin with the foundations of soccer skills in this creative, play-based format as
appropriate for their young ages.
The fall 2019 program begins Wednesday, September 4 and includes eight weeks of training at *Taugwonk Field (1x week) plus a SSC Jr. Sharks uniform t-shirt. *
Field location and date subject to change. Alternate day may be added depending on enrollment.
Fee: $50 for eight-week session, Wednesdays from 5-5:45 p.m. at Taugwonk Field, Stonington
Stage 2: "Me & My Teammates"
U7 (Born in 2013) and U8 (Born in 2012)
Training sessions will be 1x/week for 60 minutes. Play in weekend games in the CJSA league is available for those wishing to add to their soccer development path, but optional for this age
During this second stage in the Junior Sharks program, training sessions will add some complexity and introduce activities in pairs or small groups to promote communication, cooperation, and
teamwork. ABCs work will be similar to Stage I, but will include more advanced agility, eye-foot and eye-hand coordination activities.
Since this age group will be eligible to participate in CJSA travel soccer games, some attention will be given to team principles of 4v4. The primary focus will be to teach the proper
attacking and defending principles of play, both individually and with teammates. The attacking principles include penetration, width, support, off-the-ball movement, and finishing. Defending
principles include pressure, cover, and team shape.
The fall 2019 program includes two options, depending on your child's level of interest and your family schedule. Both include ten weeks of training, beginning Wednesday, August 28. Training will
be from 6- 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at Taugwonk Field.
Option #1: Ten weeks of training (1x week) on Wednesdays at *Taugwonk Field from 6-7 p.m. plus a SSC Jr. Sharks uniform t-shirt.
Fee: $50 for ten-week session beginning Wednesday, August 28.
Option #2: Ten weeks of training (1x week) on Wednesdays at *Taugwonk Field from 6-7 p.m. plus a SSC Jr. Sharks uniform t-shirt, plus one game per week (up to eight games).
Fee: $75 for ten-week session (including games with officials) beginning Wednesday, August 28.
*Field location and date subject to change. Alternate day may be added depending on enrollment.
How do I decide which option is best for my child?
If they are just starting soccer, 1x a week is developmentally appropriate for this age and skill level.
If they have been working on soccer skills for a year or more, 1x training and 1x game (in the CJSA leage) on the weekend is encouraged.
