Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) Connecticut Cup
The Connecticut Cup is a statewide, high level, single-elimination soccer competition opportunity for CJSA-registered teams. The CT Cup competition is open to boys and girls in the U11-U14 divisions and takes place in both the fall and spring seasons. A comprehensive explanation of the CT Cup and the competition’s rules can be found in Section 5 of the CJSA Guidebook (cjsa.org).
Coaches for U11-U14 players may register one team/age group in the CT Cup and coaches determine team rosters. Since the CT Cup is a “win-and-advance” competition, playing time is at the coaches’ discretion.
In addition, a CT Cup team may include a maximum of three guest players; a guest player is defined as a player unaffiliated with another CJSA-registered team. For example, a Waterford player is eligible to play on a Stonington Sharks’ CT Cup team so long as that player is not registered with the Waterford Soccer Club.
Coaches wishing to enter a CT Cup team must register through the CJSA website (cjsa.org) on or before 3:00 PM of the applicable deadline date and pay the registration fee ($75). The Stonington Soccer Club (SSC) will reimburse coaches for this fee as well as any officiating fees for home games (if applicable). If a coach registers a team AFTER the deadline, the fee is $150. SSC will only cover half of this expense.
The SSC encourages its coaches to enter teams in the CT Cup and to support the CT Cup experience. This is especially important when there are conflicts between SECJSA games and CT Cup games. Because of the limited time frame allotted to play a CT Cup game (oftentimes, less than a week), CT Cup games take priority over SECJSA games, which can be rescheduled. In this instance, coaches of CT Cup teams must immediately communicate any rescheduling issues to the affected coaches and the referee coordinator.
Stonington boys and girls teams have won the Connecticut Cup a total of five times since 2014.
